BNSF's New Online Tools Chart Intermodal Routes and Savings

FORT WORTH, Texas, June 22, 2009:

Shipping by intermodal rather than solely by highway provides important environmental, safety and security benefits. And now, with a few keystrokes, shippers and carriers from around the world can quickly see where they can use intermodal services on BNSF's vast network and just how much money it can save them.

BNSF has developed two free tools for shippers and carriers to be able to directly compare the cost and transit times of intermodal service to the highway alternative.

BNSF's new Intermodal Transit Advisor provides information on available routes, cutoff and availability times, transit time and miles between origin and destination by modes of transport. This allows shippers and carriers to see exactly how their product will move through the intermodal supply chain.

BNSF has also designed a Savings Estimator that analyzes route information and provides a custom report that shows cost savings of shipping with BNSF intermodal compared to highway shipping.

"Last year, BNSF customers achieved significant savings by converting highway freight to BNSF intermodal and experienced transit that is as fast and reliable as highway service," said Steve Branscum, BNSF group vice president, Consumer Products. "BNSF's Internet tools are open to all shippers and carriers so they can see for themselves the benefits of intermodal shipping."

BNSF's new online tools, as well as other information, can be found on the BNSF's prospective customers' page at the Web link below. http://www.bnsf.com/prospective/cpcustomer.html
